A squirrel happens on a hidden lair of nuts.

It decides to make the most of it by doubling the amount of nuts during the day and eat two nuts in the evening. By nightfall of the 3rd day there were 34 nuts in the lair.

How many nuts were in the original found treasure?

Answer : please provide answer in comments below.

Initial number of nuts = x
So,at the end of first day (including  night): 2x – 2
at the end of second day (including  night): 2(2x-2) -2 = 4x – 4 – 2 = 4x – 6
at the end of third day (including  night): 2 [4x -6] – 2 = 8x – 12 – 2 = 8x – 14
8x – 14 = 34
x = [34 +14]/8 = 48/8 = 6
So Answer: 6
