Updated(Solved): you enter a bedroom there are 34 people. you kill 30. how many are in the bedroom?

Riddle:
A riddle being viral is ‘you enter a bedroom there are 34 people. you kill 30. how many are in the bedroom?’. Its also being searched as ‘ you enter a bedroom there are 34 people’ or ‘you enter a bedroom there are 34 people’ or ‘you enter a bedroom and kill 30’
Lets look at the you enter a bedroom there are 34 people riddle in detail:

You enter a bedroom there are 34 people. you kill 30. how many are in the bedroom?

Answer:

This indeed is a bit tricky as people say 4 people but thats not correct answer.

If we read the riddle it asks ‘how many are in the bedroom’.

So 34 were already there in the room + 1 yourself.

So total of 35.

The riddle says: You enter a bedroom there are 34 people. You kill 30. How many are in the bedroom?

In the first statement, it is mentioned that you enter a bedroom and there are 34 people in the room. This means that there were 34 people. AND once you entered, there are 35 including you.

According to the second statement you kill 30 people. If you enter a bedroom and kill 30 of them out of 34 people then there are a total of 35 people are in the room.

This is because the people you killed will be people and that needs to be counted. Thereafter 4 people are alive in those 34 people and after including you there are 35 people left in the room.

  1. Wrong “You enter a bedroom there are 34 people.”
It does not say you enter a bedroom and see 34 people…it says you enter a bedroom there are 34 people (you of course have to assume the grammar error either by changing it to “You enter a bedroom and there are 34 people” or “You enter a bedroom. There are 34 people.” Either way, you are one of the 34 people.

    1. Completely agree!
It’s all in the grammar. If it stated, “You enter a room containing 34 people” or started with “There’s a room with 34 people in it” first … then yes you would be the 35th person. But since the puzzle begins with “You enter a room” and then it states how many are in the room, “you” should be counted in the total.

    2. You are wrong as well. The only person it states in the room, is you. It states you SEE 34 people. Could be outside. It says you kill 30 but not how. If you shot them while outside, again, the only one in the room is you. EVERYTHING else necessary to solve is based purely on assumptions.

      The answer is 1

      1. The riddle I saw didn’t use the phrase “you SEE 34 people.” It says “You enter a bedroom. There are 34 people.”

  2. Thank you jeff! That has been killing me. There are definitely only 34 people in the room. Now the idea that corpses are people is a whole nother thing.

  3. 34 is the correct answer based on the sentence structure.

You enter the room – (you’re now in the room)
there are 34 people – (as you’re in the room you are part of that 34…the rest is irrelevant, dead or alive.)

    Alternatively if the sentence said
You entered a room with 34 people in it then the answer would be 35

    or

There are 34 people in a room
You enter it… the answer would be 35

    1. 100% agree.. Been saying to friends sharing this FB that it should be 34 but they’re not having it because that’s not what they were told ?. Frustrating

    1. I guessed one (myself) because it says you enter a bedroom. It doesn’t say that there are people on the bedroom…..it’s a play on words and I am sticking to one!!! Thoughts!?

  4. Exactly, I have been trying, very unsuccessfully, to explain this to some folks on Facebook who insist the answer is 35. I finally told then they need to brush up on their grammar and then left the conversation before they ganged up on me…lol

  5. You enter a room theres 34 people.
(You enter a room making the total in the room 34).
    You kill 30 people.

    Leavingva total of
    30 dead people
    3 live scare people
    1 of you

    30
    3
    + 1
    =34.

If it said “you entered a bedroom with 34 people, then its 35. But thats not how its worded.

    Theres not even a comma i. e.
You entered a bedroom, there are 34 people

    The logical answer is 34.

  6. You entered a bedroom there are 34 people.
Does it say where are the 34 people or are you only assuming they are in the bedroom.

  7. there’s litereally NO WAY to answer. the grammer obviously only says that YOU enter the room,it then states there are 34 people(location unknown). ALSO we don’t know if the room is unoocupied or occupied befre YOU enter.therefore we have no way of knowing how many are in the room due to insufficient information

  8. This is the answer people are looking for. Thanks for putting it in perspective for me. I never thought about thinking outside the room. Thanks…that was driving me batty and making me angry….LOL

  9. It doesn’t say you SEE 34 people, it says there ARE 34 people. After it says you entered. So if you entered a room and there are now 34 people, you are one of the 34. This is simply a poorly worded ‘riddle’, poor grammar that doesn’t set up the facts.

  10. It mentions 34 people but never says they’re in the same room as you. That part is to throw you off. The answer is ONE cause it’s asking specifically how many are in the bedroom.

  11. If the 34 people are not in the bedroom and you kill 30 then you had to leave the bedroom yourself to kill 30 so then there is 0 in the bedrom. Totally, agree there is insufficient grammar to correctly answer.

  12. That what I seen as well, and it screwed me up too. but I believe its suppose to be “you see 34 people” because the other way we’ve seen it would generate the answer 4.

  13. not necessarily, you can kill 30 people with an automatic machine gun. all while standing inside a bedroom. The grammar is stating you walk inside the bedroom, it never states that there are 34 people in the bedroom also. it just says there are 34 people, these people could be outside of the bedroom or anywhere in the house within firing range.

  14. I’m still not convinced… the riddle never states that the 34 people are in the room that you enter you could have killed them whilst peering through a window. So I guess the answer could also be 1

  15. Real world example in Las Vegas:
    You enter a bedroom.
There are 22,000 people. You kill 58.
Now how many are in the bedroom?
    One.

  16. Isn’t this “riddle” just a meme to piss people off on social media by always saying they are wrong? It doesn’t matter how you answer, the idea is for the person who asked the riddle to bullshit their way out of it.
